The blue heart represents a bruised and heavy heart. The white hearts represent new love and hope. The leaves represent mother nature and the healing power of the earth & life, and how, if we let them, can nourish us to grow stronger emotionally and physically. Life (mother nature/the leaves/the earth) can find a way to let the light of love into our lives (the white hearts) and in the process enable us to get over pain and sadness (the blue heart) so we can find freedom and the ability to take charge of our own life.

I wanted to represent the circle of life. Starting in the center of the painting, the origin of the ‘seahorse’ life with the male seahorse to the left and the female to the right. Between them a small baby seahorse who going clockwise grows wings to become a Pegasus which represents a child, when everything can seem magical and possible. All the seahorses are either a typical seahorse shape or an underwater-horse, they are all at different stages of their life; from being born, growing up and passing on (represented by the darker seahorse shadows that are present but in the background).. Some are pretending to be seahorses (see one dragon bottom right and a double headed one bottom left). The brightest floating seahorse with wings bottom right is representative of angels who watch over them all – whether the seahorse is interacting, in a group or all alone.

I love the spring when pink magnolias come into bloom and how they encapsulate the feeling that life has sprung into action again. This painting was to try to capture the vibrancy of that moment.

Japanese fighting fish were the inspiration for this painting. The female is represented in gold and red on the left , (with red signifying anger); the golden male is represented to the right. In the process of swimming through the deep (the deep blue), she cries tears that are filled with anger. However she finds her true love, and he catches her tears. He takes them and locks them away inside, enabling her to be filled with his golden light (the tears turn from red to gold). Instead of shedding anymore tears now, she is filled with golden love that sets her free, this is represented by the golden heart between them both.

This painting is a hommage to one of my favorite painters Henri Matisse and was inspired by one of my closest friends. The photographs don’t do this painting justice, it is very bright and reflects the light wonderfully. I have tried to show in the second picture the reflective properties of the black enamel and the gold oil.
